An advocate is a support person in an integrated program that provides assistance to older adults within the Active Adult Department. This support person seeks to integrate an adult into a program to the maximum degree of involvement possible. This is a part-time position Monday-Friday from 9:30 am - 1:30 pm.
ESSENTIAL JOB ROLES AND FUNCTIONS:
The primary role of the Advocate is to provide assistance to the participants of the Transportation, Socialization/Recreational & Nutritional programs. This role
is performed under the direction of the Coordinators who oversee the older adults attending these programs. Advocates provide the extra set of ears, eyes and hands so necessary to meet the needs of this aging in place population. As the population “ages in place” the role of the Advocate becomes more and more essential.
Greet Buses and assist members if necessary to disembark from buses. Assist with Morning Programming: Ranging from helping with set up for discussion groups, exercise programs and creative arts class to assisting individual members participating in morning programming. Assist with Lunch Program: Assist with directing individuals to the lunch room, seating, collecting names/fees/medical forms and any other needs that arise. Help Seniors Prepare for the Bus Trip Home: Escort to bus, assist as needed getting individuals safely onto bus. Overall Assistant to the Meal/Transportation Coordinator. Attending relevant meetings. Filing, data input, and other office responsibilities as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
B.S. and experience working with older adults and/or special needs preferred. Good communication skills and respectful of all individuals regardless of ability level.
